What is Nobis Agri Science’s ingredient quality control program and how does it separate them from other feed manufacturers?

Quality is one of Nobis Agri Science's top priorities. We want only the best ingredients for our customers. We have a stringent Quality Control program in place.

The Nobis Agri Science Quality Control Program includes the following measures:

  • Each batch from every formula produced is sampled and retained for 1 year.
  • The actual amount for each ingredient included in each batch from every formula produced is retained electronically for 5 years.
  • Ingredients are assayed to ensure guaranteed minimums are met and nutritional specifications are in line with expectations.
  • We purchase ingredients only from vendors who strictly comply with FDA regulations.
  • All scales are calibrated in accordance with Michigan law each quarter.
  • Our mixer is validated annually to ensure thorough mixing.
  • We have a Quality Management System in place with our employees including standard operating procedures covering all aspects of quality control and material handling.  We have quality control meetings periodically and emphasize daily.  If there is any question regarding an ingredient or a formula our policy is to hold the process until there is a safe resolution.

Bottom line is we cover all aspects of ingredients and production to ensure that you do not need to worry about the quality or accuracy of your mixes.

We exercise a great deal of effort to purchase the highest quality ingredients at the fairest prices possible for our customers.  We go to great lengths to ensure these ingredients are consistent with meeting our high standards.  Our customers have grown to rely and appreciate our high quality products and is a value which we strive to continue to do in everything that we do at Nobis Agri Science.

What is FSMA and is Nobis Agri Science compliant?

The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) was signed into law on January 4, 2011, and provides the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with sweeping new authorities and requirements. The law was a bi-partisan supported bill backed by the food and feed industries. It authorizes FDA to promulgate new rules for preventive controls, develop performance standards, create new administrative detention rules, and provides authority for mandatory recall of adulterated products.

The requirements for animal food manufacturing are now held to the same standard as those of human food production. With this new prevention based system the FDA expects to see reductions in the risk of serious illness and death to animals as hazards are controlled.

The higher standards that companies must now meet means that compliance is going to be a much more timely and cost focused procedure than it ever has been before. Without a doubt, the repercussions of compliance to the FSMA Preventative Controls for Animal Food rule are going to have significant effects throughout the entire supply chain and increase costs for everyone.

Not only might businesses need to re-conceptualize their production processes and facilities, they will have an extraordinary mountain of paperwork under which to do it. The added costs, time pressures, and volume of understanding required to comply effectively increase the stakes for each business.

Nobis Agri Science has tracked the Food Safety Modernization Act since its beginning. Since we are a licensed medicated feed mill, we have already been adhering to the Good Manufacturing Practices set forth by the FDA. However, we have been fine-tuning our operating procedures and we have amped-up our training for employees.

As for the new requirements, such as a hazard analysis and preventative controls, we are continually working through what reasonably foreseeable hazards are present or not present here at our facility. Luckily for us, we only receive high quality ingredients from approved suppliers. This in itself will limit the amount of hazards coming into our facility. We also have a certified Preventative Controls Qualified Individual who is responsible for the facility's Food Safety Plan and development and application of risk-based preventive controls.

We have tracked FSMA since its beginning and it has never been more important for us to stay ahead of the curve. Food safety has always been a priority here at Nobis Agri Science and will continue to be going forward. We are constantly looking at what hazards are associated with the ingredients that we purchase and our processing steps here at the facility. We are being proactive, not reactive.

What is a custom mix ration?

The cow is a complex organism – capable of great things. We look to maximize her output. The objective in formulating rations is to provide your dairy cows with a consumable quantity of feed stuffs that will supply all required nutrients in adequate or greater amounts and do so in a cost effective way. Nobis Agri Science nutritionists will start with sampling and analyzing your forages. We will then consider your feed inventory. We then set forth utilizing best in class ration balancing programs incorporating the most recent and scientifically proven amino acid nutrition to formulate a ration to maximize income over feed costs all the while improving herd health, improving body condition, improved reproduction, lower somatic cell count, increased milk production and higher components.

It doesn’t begin or end with the lactating cows. We carefully evaluate the diet of the transition cows and heifers as well.

How do I order?

Nobis Agri Science utilizes a server based calendar that tracks your dairy's cow numbers, feeding rates, and normal order amounts.
