Are You Feeding Your Silage Fast Enough?

Are You Feeding Your Silage Fast Enough?

It's important to feed silage quickly so the forage doesn't mold or heat. With its short shelf life, dairy producers need to monitor their silage for loss of energy and heat associated with the silage.

Packing density is very important because the denser the silage is, the slower the air moves into the bunker. It is also important to consider the size of the bunker pile so you can feed enough.

Another consideration for farmers is to consider adding a buchneri silage additive when you ensile forage. It produces more acidic acid, which slows down the mold growth and helps avoid heating on feed out if that is a problem. To read the full article on the recommendations for your silage.  Click Here
